Cool Exercises For Playing Guitar Fast Using Only 2 Strings

What’s cooler than playing guitar exercises that help you get fast?

Answer:

Playing fun and easy guitar exercises that help you get fast.

Increasing your guitar speed isn’t always about playing complicated licks or patterns that take forever to learn.

It’s just as effective to use simple guitar licks that help you master fundamental techniques that build the foundation for killer shred speed.

Use these cool exercises to play guitar faster and improve your technique very quickly:

Use Rolling To Easily Playing Super-Fast Notes

Using finger rolling technique sounds awesome and gives you the power to play licks that are lightning fast with very little effort.

You just need to master the basic rolling motion and you’ll be all set!

What do you need to know to do this?:

How to collapse your finger to play a note on one string, while lightly muting the adjacent string to keep the other note from ringing out.

This video shows you exactly how to do this in order to master rolling technique:

Practice using rolling technique, not just with arpeggios, but with scales too!

Do this by rolling each finger to play notes on adjacent strings just as you would with arpeggios.

Play Lightning Fast, Smooth Licks Using Tapping Technique

Think Eddie Van Halen’s tapping sounds cool?

You’re not alone.

And the good news is, it’s not to hard to play killer tapping runs just like him.

One of the coolest and most fun ways to get started playing fast tapping licks that get people’s attention is to:

Learn how to tap your guitar scales.

This requires you to smoothly move from one string to the next without creating unwanted guitar string noise or having two notes blur together.

How do you do this?

I’ll explain.

See the tab below:

This shows a three note per string A minor scale.

Every note is played with legato.

The highest note on each string is tapped instead of played regularly.

To play this perfectly, practice smoothing out the transition from the last note of the current string to the first note of the second string.

1.   Do this by tapping the first note, and the easing your finger off the string until it is deadened. You’ll need to get your finger barely in contact to ensure this works.

2.   Then hammer on the next note.

3.   Repeat this back and forth until both notes sound clearly and there is no bleeding.

Begin with this using only 2 strings at first. This sounds really cool on its own and can easily help you think of interesting licks.

Then continue this throughout the entire scale until you are able to blaze through it (this sounds amazing!).

Use Pedal Point Licks To Give Your Soloing A Unique Sound

Playing guitar licks that repeat the same note every other note gives your playing a unique sound that reminds many people of neo-classical players.

This general idea is called pedal point and sounds really cool!

Here’s a cool lick you can use right now that sounds flashy and doesn’t require advanced technique to master:

Practice this by breaking the lick into just a few notes at a time, then add more notes as it becomes easier until you are able to play the whole thing.

Think Creatively Using Only Legato

Having excellent legato guitar technique makes your guitar playing sound incredibly smooth and lightning fast at the same time.

However, most guitar players actual learn the technique wrong from the beginning.

This video explains how to master legato with solid fundamentals:

Here is an exercise to quickly apply legato technique into any fast guitar lick:

Using any of the ideas from the previous points in the article, alternate picking the licks with playing using legato only.

This has the effect of locking both your hands together in sync.

Result: You improve your legato, picking and two hand synchronization all with just one exercise!

Of course, there are many other ways to create cool guitar licks besides the ones you learned here.
