Play Guitar With Faster And Cleaner Technique Using A Creative Octave Lick
One of the key elements of fast and clean guitar speed is locking both hands in sync perfectly. Doing this requires fretting the note at the exact moment you pick the string.
One great way to practice this is to play guitar licks that use string skipping.
Skipping over a string to play notes in rapid succession requires a lot of concentration to fret the note just as you pick the string.
Practicing licks like these not only improves your string skipping, but makes it easier to play clean by locking both hands together during normal licks as well.
Use the fast guitar lick below to get started:
Note: Don’t overwhelm yourself with this lick if you are not used to string skipping yet. Play through the first 9 notes to get a feel for skipping over the string. Then add more as the motion becomes more fluid.
Develop Better Sweep Picking Technique By Playing With Unique Arpeggio Patterns
Sweep picking is one of the most-desired techniques that guitar players wish they could learn. However, most guitarists only learn the basic arpeggio patterns that everyone else learns.
Learning more unique arpeggios opens you up to developing better technique and more creative soloing than other players. This makes you stand out and causes people to stop and take notice.
Here are a few arpeggio patterns to practice to give yourself some fast licks to play that sound unique and expressive.

Become A Better & Faster Rhythm Guitarist Playing Guitar Licks That Combine Double Stops With Single Notes
Being able to articulate open strings in between double stops helps you not only develop tighter rhythm guitar playing but cleaner lead guitar technique as well.
Repeat this fast guitar lick by beginning with the first four notes:
Play the double stop at the beginning using a downstroke, followed by alternate picking the open strings and playing the second double stop with another downstroke.
Repeat this by playing it fast, resting for a moment and repeating it again. Then use different picking combinations to challenge your picking technique to improve.
Once you are able to repeat this part of the lick with little problem, complete it with the remaining notes.
By using double stops together with single notes (and palm muting), you are forced to pick very precisely to not make any mistakes. This makes playing fast lead guitar licks easier when they only involve single strings.
It also prepares you to play more creative rhythm guitar licks than ones made with power chords only. Apply this same concept of integrating different ideas together to create your own, unique riffs.
